Description
An oil on canvas painting depicting a genre scene of two dark-robed figures, likely monks or scholars, deeply engrossed in reading a large book at a table. The artwork exhibits a 19th to early 20th-century academic or realist approach. It is housedwithin a heavily ornate, carved giltwood frame. The verso shows a largely torn paper dust cover over the canvas and stretcher, with no discernible artist’s signature or other identifying marks on the artwork. Frame dimensions are 13.25 x 15.5 inches. Wear and a small area of damage are present on the frame. Back shows aged materials and wiring for hanging. L3
