Description
An English Late Victorian sterling silver and crystal dresser jar. The lidded pot comprises a clear, faceted octagonal glass jar and a heavily ornamented sterling silver lid. The lid features deeply embossed or repoussé decoration in a Late Victorian or Edwardian style, characterized by ornate scrollwork, foliage, and a central cartouche. The interior of the lid appears bright gold-gilded. Hallmarks visible on the side of the lid include the maker’s mark ‘L&S’, an anchor indicating the Birmingham assay office, a lion passant signifying sterling silver, and the date letter ‘Z’, which corresponds to the year 1899. A less distinct monarch’s head duty mark is also present. Lid weight: 9.46g
