Description
This Victorian Naturalist Taxidermy Bird Diorama is presented under a clear glass dome, measuring 15 inches in height. The display features five preserved taxidermy birds and one small, fuzzy, bird-like figure (identified as a fake bird), meticulously arranged on a gnarled tree branch structure with artificial foliage. The diorama is set on a sandy-textured base, resting on a dark, oval wooden base with a dark velvet-like rim. Such elaborate naturalist displays were highly popular in the 19th Century. An accompanying period photograph, dated January 1965, confirms the item’s existence by this date, providing valuable provenance.
